Truly “game changing” design doesn’t reveal itself quite as often as manufacturers might advertise, but this ultra-lightweight solo tent deserves some credit for incorporating some features we haven’t seen before. This tent’s focus is on weight savings more than interior space, but a unique upward-turning brow pole does enhance internal livability by increasing the peak height and expanding the size of the vestibule. It also creates truly usable ceiling vents that can be battened down from the inside if need be. There are also integrated floor vents which in combination with the ceiling vents create far better ventilation than we’re used to seeing on backpacking tents. Even the stuff sack design is innovative. The sack can function as a traditional single compartment or it can be broken into three individual parts which can come in handy when you’re loading everything into your backpack. All three compartments can be clipped inside the tent when empty to serve as storage pockets and the dedicated pole bag even has a rigid, translucent side that serves as an internal “lightbar” when paired with a headlamp. Hard to say if Sea to Summit has changed the game or is just modifying the rules a bit, but either way, we’re impressed.
