In a world of backpacks that seems inhabited with heavy, unwieldy load haulers on one end and ultra-lightweight packs short on features at the other, the new Katmai and Kalmia live comfortably in the space between those extremes. There are certainly lighter options, but few that would also carry up to 45 pounds so effortlessly and combine so many organizational features. A dynamic suspension system makes the packs exceptionally agile and helps to dump excess heat to help keep you cool. They have pockets and lash points everywhere you would want them, and other smart touches like a sunglasses quick stow on the front of the harness and a tuckaway side pocket that properly situates a water bottle (bottle not included) for on-the-go access.
